WHY USE US?

A decree nisi of divorce is in essence a decree of a court saying that you are entitled to a divorce. The word nisi is latin and means interim.

Decrees nisi are usually pronounced in court in a very brisk fashion because there is usually very little to argue about. In the vast majority of cases the couple have already notified the court that they agree to the divorce, so it is rare that there is any problem with this pronouncement of the decree nisi.

A decree nisi does not terminate a marriage, although it does have the legal effect of crossing out the names of the spouses from each other's wills. The rest of their wills remain intact.
