Decree absolute is the name given to the final decree of divorce, which finally terminates the marriage.
A decree absolute can be applied for by the person who was doing the divorcing 6 weeks after the decree nisi, and then they get it by right. If they do not do it then the other party is entitled to apply for it (but not insist on it) another 3 months after that. It also has to be done within 12 months or else a special explanation will be required.
A decree absolute finally terminates the marriage forever. It is the point of no return.
