Subjects - Civil law - Privacy
Traditionally, in our law, there was no such thing as a right to privacy. However, over recent years the law has been slowly changing. This has partly been due to the influence of foreigners in the form of European Institutions and the Human Rights Act, but also various pop and movie stars who, in the short intervals of time between plastering their faces all over the media, occasionally complain because somebody else has been plastering their faces all over the media without their permission. And then of course there was the sporting mogul who objected strenuously to his vigorous activities in a basement involving whips and leather being aired.
As a result of these cases we are gradually heading towards a general privacy law, and just because the law has been fashioned by the concerns of the high and mighty doesn't mean that it doesn't also apply to the rest of us.
