Under this if you do choose to terminate a lawyer's services early under you then become liable to pay the lawyer's fees. This is because you have in effect taken away their opportunity to earn the fee by winning the case.
These agreements also sometimes include provision whereby if there is any malpractice by the client, like for example, not giving instructions, answering questions, responding to correspondence, etc, then you can also be charged in that situation, irrespective of the result of the litigation.
And usually in connection with such provisions there might also be provision for you to have to pay a deposit before a case can continue any further.
