Lawyers draft thousands and thousands of legal documents, and each and every one of them tends to be unique.
It is crucially important that before anyone signs a document they
- 1. understand the document itself; and
- 2. understand any important implications to them that are not clear from the document itself; and
- 3. agree with both.
Therefore when a document has been drafted you would normally need some guidance or consultancy on it to make sure of all 3. Then you might prefer to alter it. Or if its a document that anyone else has to sign, they mght decline to do so without alterations.
In either event that might result in more drafting being needed to alter it, and then more guidance or consultancy and so on.
So in a nutshell we recommend that preparing a document is in 5 stages:
- 1. We help you to define the document you want.
- 2. We draft it for you.
- 3. Guidance or consultancy about it, to secure the 3 points above or go back to 2 as required.
- 4. Get agreement of any other parties, going back to 2 or 3 above as required.
- 5. Sign it.
Theoretically this process could go on forever but in practical terms it usually very quickly results in a document satisfactory to everyone concerned.
