This is called in the jargon 'Going Part Heard'. If the fact that it will take more than the one day to hear has been anticipated then this may well be the following day.
Sometimes however a case that has been anticipated to take 3 days might need a fourth and none of the parties anticipated. In that event the resumption of the hearing has to be pushed off to a further date in the future that is convenient for all the parties.
