WHY USE US?

Most court hearings tend to be listed (ie start) at about 10.00am or 10.30am. Some start in the afternoon, which tends to be about 2.00pm. Upon arrival at court lists of cases for the day will be on display with their start times.

Unfortunately very often courts are overbooked with cases. Very often all the cases that a court intends to hear on a morning, for example, will be booked in for 10.00am, or for an afternoon at 2.00pm, and then all the parties to all these cases just have to sit and wait until all the cases are heard in turn.

Cases do not tend to be taken in any particular order, just whatever order seems convenient at the time. So if you need to be away at any particular time do mention it to somebody and you might get 'bumped up the list' (as lawyers say). Conversely, be on time and make sure they know you are there and ready to start, or else you might get bumped down the list.

Some courts use the indelicate phrase 'bear garden' to describe this process of getting cases positioned in the lists.

In effect what this all means is that an appointment at 10.00am might actually involve a couple of hours or more waiting before you get started, so do not take court start times too literally.
