Sometimes a party does not really like to be involved in court proceedings.
So they might disappear. But that is not necessarily a problem. There are procedures to enable a court claim to be started against someone who cannot be found, or continued without him if he subsequently disappears. Ask us for detailed advice.
Or they might just drag their feet. Often this will be the party on the receiving end, ie the one who is being taken to court by the other party. But sometimes too the party who started it gets cold feet, eg if it looks as if they might be going to lose.
In this situation the directions of the court can be enforced, and in a serious case a judge might order that a party who refuses to comply loses the case altogether for their defiance. In that event a full trial of the dispute never has to take place, because the other party is the automatic winner.
