For example, occasionally something crops up that a lawyer has to deal with on your behalf right away without the lawyer having a chance to talk to you about it, and that busts the budget. Or maybe the lawyer cannot get hold of you for some reason to get your authority to do whatever is needed.
In these sorts of situations you have to trust your lawyer to do what the lawyer thinks is best for you, even if it does mean tearing up the budget.
In addition, absolutely any case, even a very modest one that starts off in the Small Claims Court, could in theory be the subject of appeals and then more appeals and more appeals right up to the highest courts in Europe, and this could make what seemed at first sight a very simple straightforward dispute into an incredibly expensive one.
These extreme situations are rare though, so don't worry too much. But do bear them in mind.
