WHY USE US?

While a lawyer acts for you, you may well hand to the lawyer certain documents or other items for use in connection with the matter. From time to time the lawyer will dispose of such items that are no longer needed by the lawyer. You are taken to authorise the lawyer to do this.

It is your responsibility to ensure that these items indisputably belong to you and that you are free to hand them to the lawyer. Otherwise if anybody makes any claim (valid or otherwise) against the lawyer for handling or disposing of them you must repay the lawyer anything he has to pay out in settling or defending that claim including costs.

When the lawyer stores papers etc he will eventually destroy them after such a period as he thinks appropriate, without necessarily referring to you on what that period should be. If you have any views on this then please make them known to the lawyer.

While a lawyer holds your papers he is entitled to make a charge for their storage and retrieval.
